As a Hydraulic Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain hydraulic systems, focusing on control aspects to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of mobile drill rigs and drilling products. You will be responsible for integrating hydraulic systems with other mechanical and electrical components, troubleshooting, and optimizing performance. This role is vital for the upcoming expansion of our product line, which includes five additional drill rigs.
Responsibilities
+ Develop and sustain hydraulic control systems for mobile drill rigs and related equipment with minimal supervision.
+ Read, interpret, and create hydraulic schematics to support system design and troubleshooting.
+ Track and maintain hose routings, lengths, and fittings for existing products to ensure consistency and reliability.
+ Contribute to multiple design and control projects simultaneously, requiring strong multitasking and organizational skills.
+ Collaborate with production and service teams to implement, test, and troubleshoot hydraulic systems in both new and legacy products.
+ Follow engineering standards and documentation protocols to ensure quality and traceability.
Essential Skills
+ 1-3 years of hydraulic schematic design and interpretation experience.
+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Physics.
+ Proficiency in CAD modeling, with preference for Solid Edge.
+ Background in fluid mechanics.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with load sense hydraulics.
+ Experience working within production or collaborating with production staff.
+ Completion of fluid dynamics or physics courses.
Work Environment
This position is with a 3rd generation family-owned business that manufactures the Versa-Drill brand of water well, geothermal, exploration, and shallow oil/gas drilling rigs and equipment. Founded in 1962, the company is based in Downtown Indianapolis and employs 35 people. The work environment includes a 60% office and 40% shop split, with a 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM ET first shift opportunity from Monday through Friday. The engineering team consists of six members, promoting a collaborative and fast-paced design and manufacturing process. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.06 - $43.27/hr.
