Job Description

The Research Fellow will support two faculty members at BUSPH—Dr. Katrina Kezios (research on determinants of cognitive aging and dementia) and Dr. Margaret (Maggie) Lind (research on infectious disease prevention and treatment). This role is equally divided (50% effort with each faculty member), with responsibilities spanning both research programs.

The Research Fellow will
  • Coordinate study activities, including both logistical tasks (e.g., IRB/Human Subjects approval, scheduling, tracking milestones) and scientific tasks (e.g., manuscript preparation, conference presentations, and grant submissions).
  • Manage and monitor project progress, ensuring deliverables and timelines are met across multiple studies.
  • Provide support to and oversee the work of trainees (predoctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and research assistants) engaged in the projects.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration across teams to ensure alignment of research goals.
  • Ideally contribute to data analysis, depending on the candidate’s interests and skills.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful research in two distinct but complementary areas—aging and dementia, and infectious disease prevention—while building skills in research administration, project management, and scientific dissemination.

Essential functions:
  • Coordinate team activities on multiple projects, and lead and create agendas for meetings
  • Prepare documents related to research activities, including funding agency progress reports, study protocols, Data Use Agreements and other data governance, and IRB submissions
  • Monitor achievement of grant implementation milestones
  • Oversee, and lead whenever applicable, a growing research agenda
  • Assist with literature reviews, background research, and writing of grants and manuscripts, conference abstracts and other submissions
  • Perform other administrative duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested

  • Superior communication skills and experience in writing academic thesis or manuscripts
  • Able to make and carry out decisions independently and collaborate and manage partnerships with a range of departments and centers.

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with quantitative data analysis, including proficiency in R.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and judgment and demonstrate professionalism and flexibility.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, as well as able to assume progressively more responsibility for project tasks and work independently without close supervision.
