Job Description

Purpose of position: To lead the PR team in designing and implementing marketing strategies that cultivate brand awareness for our diverse clientele. Essential Functions: (must be able to perform these functions, with or without a reasonable accommodation). Responsibilities Director Duties: Recruits, interviews, and hires PR specialists as needed. Supervises PR specialists including providing assistance and mentoring, coordinating time off, and providing feedback on work performance. Oversees the progress of the team to ensure goals are met in a timely manner. Coordinates collaborative meetings with PR specialists and members of various departments to review client accounts and progress. Public Relations Duties: Identifies new business targets and leads, converting clients as necessary. Identifies opportunities to grow business with existing clients. Drives the overall strategy including media relations, partnerships, and events for client accounts. Leads the writing and managing of new business pitches. Provides insights and ideas, brainstorms, and creates innovative campaigns with the team. Develops supplier relationships and partner relationships. Develops client rapport and builds relationships. Keeps up with current news agendas and developments within industry including following social media, influencers, and digital marketing trends. Develops and maintains excellent media contacts across the media spectrum. Ensures account profitability while ensuring clients’ expectations are met. Acts as an ambassador for the agency and supports the internal PR and marketing endeavors of the agency. Organizes mid to large PR events staying within client’s budget. Identifies new marketing opportunities for the agency and keeps abreast of competition to stay ahead of the curve. Keeps accurate record of time spent on client projects. Skills, knowledge and abilities Must be able to effectively collaborate with other team members to understand and deliver client needs. Must have a keen eye for story angles and developing a compelling media timeline. Must be politically sensitive with the ability to work with all affiliations in diverse work environments. Ability to network and form strategic partnerships, bringing in new and exciting ideas. Must be financially adept with the ability to work within client budgets and offer alternative solutions if necessary. Must exhibit strong proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software. Must possess solid news judgement in both traditional media and new media. Must have a strong network of contacts/writers across a variety of topics. Must have working knowledge of video editing, audio editing and limited experience in creating digital files for social media, non-traditional media, etc. Must be familiar with media valuation reporting. Must be willing to travel and work additional hours outside of the normal 9 to 5. Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and effectively work under pressure and meet deadlines. Must have excellent reading, writing, proofreading, and communication skills with English being primary language. Must be able to make decisions with little supervision when necessary to meet clients’ needs. Must be able to use hands, fingers and wrists, repetitively, using a computer keyboard and other office equipment. Must be able to see and hear with or without the use of lenses or aids. Experience and Education Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, or related field. 8 – 10 years experience working in Public Relations with prior supervisory experience a plus. Prior experience organizing mid to large size events for clients.
