Overview Hourly Reading Tutor: Orton-Gillingham (Candidate Pool) A completed application includes proof of education, three references, and a resume. Description: The reading tutor position plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students. The tutor instructs and supervises students using the Orton-Gillingham instructional approach. Plan and implement instructional programs and services that adhere to the school mission and meet the strengths, interests, needs, and abilities of each student. Maintain a safe and secure learning environment. Create a learning environment that nurtures the talents and development of all students. Prepare long term and short term plans to accelerate student learning. Plan instructional intervention utilizing the Orton-Gillingham instructional approach to support each student with achieving learning objectives and outcomes. Monitor student progress and design lessons aligned to student needs. Evaluate student performance through observations, assignments, informal and formal assessments. Provide input to student educational plans and team processes. Maintain complete and accurate student records. Communicate student progress to students and parents/guardians. Meet with students and parents to support progress and growth. Oversee the appropriate use and care of instructional materials, resources, and equipment. Collaborate with school administration, colleagues, support staff, parents, and community members in the best interests of students. Improve skills and knowledge base in current trends, evidence-based practices, technology, and interdisciplinary connections. Salary hourly pay rate Hours flexible Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of the KPS (Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading) Knowledge of the strengths and needs presented by students with language based learning differences. Ability to maintain confidentiality when discussing students’ progress and concerns with staff. Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form. Ability to implement effective lesson plans to support the educational program. Ability to work with diverse learners. Possess basic technology knowledge to support student learning and clerical tasks. Skilled in technology competency and software applications such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Ability to demonstrate strong human relations skills. Ability to have positive and professional communication with staff, administrators, parents, and/or the community. Education Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an applicable field. Preferred Qualifications Training in a structured literacy and the Orton Gillingham interventional approach for struggling readers (OG PLUS preferred) Special Education experience or certification Two previous years of tutoring/teaching experience preferred Physical and Environmental Conditions The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment or virtually. Work may require the flexibility to move around the school and classroom.
