Responsibilities

• Performs environmental analysis, studies and surveys concerning present and future environmental, health and natural resource management issues to address concerns related to regulatory pest prevention measures.
• Implements enforcement of state interior quarantines and federal domestic quarantine measures for invasive pests that could negatively impact the states natural resources and native flora and fauna.
• Evaluates data from quarantine implementation activities on the effects of regulatory measures on vegetation, wildlife, land, water supplies and other environmental aspects; applies data to assist in developing solutions to protect the states natural resources and agricultural industry.
• Prepares regulatory permits, protocols and related documents for state, county and local agencies to ensure compliance with current quarantine regulations and protection of agricultural land and natural resources.
• Prepares and presents scientific information at training sessions on identification, prevention, survey, sampling, and environmental issues related to invasive pests and diseases; delivers presentations to county agricultural commissioners, CDFA, USDA, UC Extension specialists, nursery operators, pest control operators and the public.
• Meets and consults with growers, ranchers, nurseries and commercial agricultural entities to provide regulatory guidance and obtain compliance with laws and regulations.
• Mantains an efficient office and personal library on pest prevention information, sampling and survey methods, and pesticide information; keeps all records up to date and assists the Senior Environmental Specialist in evaluating new data.

Working Conditions

The duties are performed both outdoors and indoors. When assigned to work outdoors, approximately 80?% of the time is outdoor work; 20?% is indoor. Overtime, weekend work, travel statewide, and emergency projects may be required. Exposure to pesticides, insects, odors, weather extremes, and noise is possible.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications are outlined in the class specification. Candidates must hold a valid California Drivers License (CDL) and meet any other requirements listed.
