Position Summary

As an EHS Manager, you will manage a comprehensive Environmental, Health and Safety program for the Mactac Spartanburg, SC facility. You will provide leadership, direction and training that will ensure a safe and healthful workplace for our associates while ensuring compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations to minimize current and future liabilities/risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and drive programs and initiatives that foster a safety-first culture within the facility.
  • Drive injury prevention through risk assessment, auditing (equipment, process, behavior), corrective action, and rigorous implementation of safety programs.
  • Lead team engagement activities, including frequent employee communications, shop floor meetings, implementation of a hazard ID program, and creation of plant safety committees.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, Local and Mactac requirements and policies
  • Manage spill prevention/spill containment programs and continually improve sustainability in the areas of waste elimination, energy conservation, and water consumption.
  • Lead and continually improve all EHS related employee training programs, including specific new hire training as well as refresher trainings for all employees.
  • Provide oversight and completion of the industrial hygiene program.
  • Provide direction, training, and ensure compliance with, lock-out-tag-out and safe equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Provide direction and establish safe working procedures for pedestrian / fork truck interaction, including establishing pedestrian walkways, barriers, active indicators, signs, etc.
  • Provide incident and injury investigation, incident reporting management, and oversight for the facility, to include worker's compensation management.
  • Provide oversite and coordination of the site's OSHA compliance programs, including the facility-wide MOC program.
  • Develop and submit annual budget requests for both EHS department expenses and EHS capex improvement projects.
  • Lead completion of EHS related improvement projects.
  • Evaluate the EHS impacts of capex and plant improvement projects and assure EHS risk assessments are completed.
  • Lead site security, fire prevention, and insurance carrier risk management.
  • Lead efforts relative to Title V, and water permits (Industrial and Stormwater)
  • Oversight of the Waste Management Program (Hazardous, Non-Hazardous, Universal) for a Large Quantity Generator
  • Develop and maintain emergency response and contingency plans.
  • Facilitate certification and compliance with ISO14001 requirements and maintain certification.
  • Develop key indicators that drive continuous improvement in sustainability metrics (energy, water, waste), spill incidents, injuries, and the EHS Management System, and, provide report out to management on a daily, monthly, annual basis.

  • Physical Requirements: The person in this position normally works in a manufacturing environment with a significant amount of time spent in the manufacturing facility. Hearing, eye, and foot protection are mandatory in the manufacturing area.

  • Location: Moore, SC (Close proximity to Spartanburg, Greenville)
  • Travel: up to 25%

Selection Criteria:

  • Education:
    • A Bachelor's degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or related.
  • Experience:
    • Manufacturing experience required
    • 7+ years' experience in the EHS field, preferably in chemical setting using solvents and other hazardous chemicals
    • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience
    • Advanced Microsoft Office experience required
    • ERP Experience required
    • Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills
    • Expert knowledge of safety and environmental regulations and consensus standards (OSHA, EPA, DOT, NIOSH, ANSI, NFPA, Workers' Compensation), inspection procedures, audits, hazard reviews, incident prevention, and incident investigation techniques.
    • Expertise in change management and building a safety culture through influence and engagement
    • Exceptional communication skills
