Job Description

Entry-Level Claims Counsel – Perfect for PI or Insurance Defense Attorneys Seeking an In-House Role

Richmond, VA | Full-Time, In-Office

A New Way to Use Your Litigation Skills — Without the Billable Hours

Are you a junior attorney with experience in personal injury, insurance defense, or general litigation looking for a more stable, predictable, and growth-oriented career path?

ProspectBlue’s client — a respected leader in the specialty insurance industry — is seeking an Entry-Level Claims Counsel to join their in-house team in Richmond, Virginia.

This is an exceptional opportunity for attorneys who enjoy evaluating cases, communicating with counsel, and analyzing liability and damages — but want to step outside the traditional law firm model. No prior insurance coverage experience is required. If you can think critically, write well, and are eager to learn, you’ll receive robust training and mentorship from seasoned in-house attorneys and claims professionals.

Compensation is competitive for junior lawyers, ranging from $100,000–$125,000 depending on experience, plus eligibility for a 15% annual bonus . This position is fully in-office (Monday–Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm), and interviews will be conducted onsite. No remote or flex-time opportunities are available.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage specialty insurance claims from initial intake through resolution
  • Apply your litigation instincts to evaluate coverage, liability, and exposure
  • Work directly with outside defense counsel and help guide case strategy
  • Participate in mediations and settlement discussions
  • Communicate with insureds and internal teams to move claims forward efficiently

Who This Role Is Ideal For:

  • Junior personal injury or insurance defense attorneys seeking an in-house career path
  • Litigators who enjoy case evaluation more than courtroom appearances
  • Attorneys looking for predictable hours, structured mentorship, and industry stability

What You Bring:

  • J.D. and an active law license (in good standing) in any U.S. jurisdiction
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Interest in learning insurance law, claims handling, and risk assessment
  • Ability to collaborate in a fast-paced, team-driven office environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)

Why You’ll Love This Role:

✅ A true in-house legal position at an early career stage

✅ Clear training, guidance, and growth opportunities

✅ A collaborative, supportive office environment

✅ Competitive compensation and full benefits package

✅ A chance to build specialized expertise in a stable and respected industry

Ready for a Change?

If you’re ready to leverage your litigation experience in a new, rewarding direction — without the grind of billables — we’d love to hear from you. Please send your resume and a brief cover letter to jamie.shield@prospectblue.com to start the process.
